The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.
While perhaps not at the same level as pardoning festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life away from worry.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, donated by a first responder, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to begin the holiday season,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the spirit of Miami: vibrant, varied, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted the pig's pardon.
