The beloved police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its seventh season, confirmed by the BBC.

An upcoming six-part season created by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.

The actress shared her enthusiasm about the return, stating she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."

The previous series concluded in 2021 with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a potential return have been widespread for some time, but official word only arrived this week.

Fresh Obstacles for The Team

The seventh season will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.

Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to combat corruption within the law enforcement.

The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most sensitive case so far."

New Character and Complex Case

A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to become a sexual predator.

Yet, his case might serve as a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still operating in the background, plot details suggested.

In a statement, the creator commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."

"It's an honor to have had so many followers track the developments of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a new season."

He added: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."

Actor Responses

The Scottish actor described appearing in the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".

"Beyond the program's popularity but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."

"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he added.

The Nottingham-born actress stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Compston and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"

Adrian Dunbar commented: "As we count down the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together next year."

"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."

Show History

The drama premiered in the early 2010s and became a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting guest stars such as Lennie James.

The BBC has not yet announced exactly the new season will premiere.

The finale of series six brought the long-running storyline about the hunt for kingpin known as "H" to a close, and producers said at the moment there were no intentions for further series.

Nevertheless, the network announced on Tuesday that a seventh series is now in development.
