The Blue Jays Earn World Series Showdown Against defending champion Dodgers
Springer was instrumental for the Astros claiming the championship in the 2017 season.
Toronto's Blue Jays reached their first Fall Classic following 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the seventh seventh game of the ALCS.
Down 3-1, outfielder George Springer hit a three-run blast in the seventh, propelling the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a four games to three triumph in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the defending champions, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.
"It's incredible for our team, our city, Canada," said Springer, a key player of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 title. "It's truly an incredible feeling."
Springer has now slugged 23 playoff homers, placing him third on the list after Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"I can't think of anyone else on planet Earth that I want up in that situation except for him with his playoff prowess," remarked manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a championship series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "without a doubt that it's painful" in the wake of his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but commended their efforts this season.
"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we finished on the losing end of the series," he remarked.
The Blue Jays secured the championship on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and will host the Dodgers in the first game on Friday.
