An extensive 60-day journey circling Australia was terminated following the tragic passing of an older female passenger who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a distant tropical isle.

The passenger had been trekking on the remote island with shipmates from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the group for a rest. The liner sailed away leaving her and went back several hours later after the ship staff discovered the passenger was unaccounted for.

A large-scale hunt found her remains the subsequent day.

Authorities are investigating the tragedy, alongside police and the official investigator.

The CEO of the voyage organizer said that guests and staff on the vessel were told that the remainder of the cruise had been called off due to the "sad loss and earlier engine troubles".

In a statement, he further stated that travelers would be issued a total repayment, and said the organization was working "to organize the return journeys of the travelers via specially arranged planes".

Regulatory bodies also issued an updated communication, and said they had "delivered a order to the Captain" prohibiting any additional guests from boarding the liner.

The representative said that they would visit the vessel in the port city upon its coming back.

Timeline of Incidents

The vessel initially left Cairns on 24 October, and was merely two days into the journey at the point of the elderly woman's death. The tropical location was the opening port on the journey.

Guests on board - who typically pay tens of thousands of money to participate in the expedition - were taken there for a daily excursion with the possibility of trekking or snorkelling.

Next of Kin Response

The daughter of the elderly passenger said that her loved ones was "stunned and distressed that the vessel left Lizard Island after an organised excursion without my mum".

Via her announcement, she portrayed her mother as an "vigorous elderly person" who was a member of a hiking organization.

"From the little facts we have been provided, it appears that there was a failure of care and ordinary reasoning," she stated.

She added that she hoped the examination would be able to determine what "the operator should have done that might have saved Mum's life".

"According to reports from the authorities that it was a exceptionally warm day, and mum became unwell on the mountain ascent," she explained.

"Officials suggested her to go back, alone. Then the vessel departed, apparently without doing a roll call.

"At a certain moment in that process, or soon after, she succumbed, without company."

Company Reaction

Through an announcement, the Chief Executive confirmed that the company was "collaborating extensively with officials to assist their examination".

He stated that the firm was "very regretful that this has occurred" and had offered its complete assistance to the loved ones.

Maritime Business Practices

The liner accommodates up to one hundred twenty guests with forty-six staff, according to corporate information. It was purpose-built to reach isolated locations of the nation's coastline and is outfitted with "tenders" - compact vessels used to transport individuals on day excursions.

Occurrences like this are uncommon, and liners have protocols to track which travelers are getting on or disembarking, according to travel authorities.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] aboard just isn't an possibility," one expert commented.

Cruise lines take these processes extremely carefully and have "advanced technology in place to stop such occurrences from occurring," the specialist continued.

"This appears to be probably a shocking - and unfortunate - single occurrence."
