Ideally, they'd want an Ashes series in Australia where they remain in contention to secure the famous trophy once the opening games are done.

That will not be happening this time, though, after Australia's crushing triumph in Adelaide gave Australia with a 3-0 lead for the fourth successive Ashes series on Australian grounds.

The Barmy Army, the organized fan base, have 3,000 fans traveling for the last two matches in New South Wales and Victoria.

In addition, there are travel parties who will celebrate the holidays down under, as well as loved ones heading for a dream holiday.

The Ryding Siblings

Four fans named Alex, Sam, Rory and Katie are among those affected.

Alex, Sam, Rory and Katie had their itineraries and entry credentials arranged for the Boxing Day and New Year Tests "a full year in advance", hoping to witness a long-awaited triumph.

Sadly, they've observed Australia outplay the visitors in just a short period from their house in their hometown.

"People in the office has been making comments regarding the concluded contest for the last two weeks," commented one sibling.

"Our expectation had been that we would have the series on the line upon our arrival."

Lowered Expectations

Hope was abundant concerning a potential victory of ending their 15-year wait for a victory down under ahead of the tour.

However, the situation is now looking at the possibility of continuing a barren spell in the country to 19 consecutive Tests when the Boxing Day Test begins in the MCG on Christmas Day.

The tourists - and their supporters - will be keen to prevent a whitewash.

One sibling noted the "excitement and fun" of head coach the positive style of play in recent times had "brought fresh energy to" Test cricket for England fans.

Yet the fans said they had minimal hopes for the final two games - and all they are hoping for from the players is "a show of spirit".

"All analysts points it out, but it all is about fortitude. 'Bazball' has been turned into a buzzword now that is just, like, unrealistic play," stated Rory Ryding.

"During a long match, you should apply yourself. Playing at deliveries 'wide of off stump has never been in the textbooks, and that is largely because of the frontline batsmen."

Looking Ahead

When questioned if he believed England will triumph in a Test in this contest, Sam said: "It looks like the hosts are a stronger side right now."

"It will require more than one player that makes a significant contribution and makes a big impact."

Despite the scoreline, the siblings are still anticipating the trip.

"We are going to have a wonderful trip anyway," commented Katie Ryding. "Our approach is that mindset."

"Of course, it's a let-down we can't contest the series, but we have invested a significant amount by now."

"We will make the most of celebrating the holidays out there. Additionally, it's our first experience away from home during the festive period."

An educator, Katie is intent on maximizing the long-haul travel as part of her time off.

"If all else fails, I can play golf to turn to," she finished.
